Something diffrent

I'm a Journalist from Germany and doing a Blog. For Today I like to do something different to find out how American Students think.

I just ask someone - do you have same time for a interview and here is the result:

May I can ask you - is there anything on me you might laugh, you think it is crazy or different?

I personally think that the socks part was little funny, considering his whole outfit, on top of that, his lower outfit was little weird as well so that cracked me up.

Do you think all People have to see like the same?

Certainly not, People might have their own personal view. They might see things in a different aspect and might not be important to notice what I did.

Well, when I like to dance, they always say "You need to put a different pants on". What you think about this?

Well, if you just wanna dance around people then your outfit shouldn't make any difference unless you are in a completely embarassing outfit. People have the right to live their life in their own way no matter what. However there are some social and cultural limitations and rules that people should not go over it. Since we live in a group, in a community, I think we have to consider a little about the way, our society look at us.

What are the social and cultural limitations and rules of your Society?

There might be lot of things that people are still not ready to accept. For example: There are still many people out there who do not want to accept gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender people. There are people who do not want to eat some specific food because of their culture like, Hindu people do not eat beef. Similarly people do not wanna see some guy dancing naked on the street, which an individual could certainly do but then the society wouldn't accept that.

Do you think I'm Gay?

Not really because I , myself, am a bad guesser. However, I thought that your outfit was little funny.

Do you think, they do not let me dance in these pants because they want to keep Gay's out?

This could be one of the reason but then people might think otherwise as well. Considering your outfit, people might think you are little unstable. Our society has a way of thinking that normal people wear normal things.

Most Parks in the US only open at daylight hours - do you know why?

Not sure about this.

What you think about that?

They could be doing this because to decrease the crime rate, in one case. However, there might be many things that could be the reason for this.

What are your feelings about 9-11?

That was a totally devastating incident. I might not know about this incident in very detail but in general, this was the biggest incident happened that I ever knew which kept the whole world in terror.

Same People say the US did it by there one to create a war. Pleace respond to that!

I think this is still a controversial thing to discuss no matter how much you discuss and how much you think about it unless you have the power to prove it that someone acutally did it. I think general citizens are not capable to think this kind of thing in a deeper way but it could be done by the US itself to fulfil its own demands.

What Music you like?

I like every sort of genres but i would still prefer rock, hard rock and metal songs.

Tell me something about your life!

I am an international student in Saint Cloud for two year now. I am from Hong Kong but my nationality is Nepalese. Coming here was a great experience. Meeting new people with new culture was really challenging. The way I was and the way I am now feels like totally two different persons, hopefully in a better way but this place was able to change me and educate me in so many ways.

After lunch I meet another student – this time born in the States to look on diffrent Thinkings when people came from diffrent cultures.

I asked him basicly the same questions beside the first one, because he did not noted any unusal thing on me.

After informing him how other people react to my Outfit he stated to that:

“I don’t judge anyone based on their appearance this is something I practice. Martin Luther King said in his I have a dream speech that not to judge a person based on their appearance but to judge them on the content of their charcter, and I try and practice this in my own personal ethics.”

So you have been happy when Obama has been elected?

I think that we have taken a huge step in the right direction to achieve what Martin Luther King dream really was. This has been overdue in our society, and is very much welcomed with open arms. This makes me happy, not all the issue that his job has to deal with. He does what he thinks is best for the U.S. people and I trust him.

Well, when I like to dance, they always say "You need to put a different pants on". What you think about this?

I think that some people get uncomfortable when something is different then what they are use to. These social norms can take control of what we find normal, but I support individualist that try and break up the social norms of our society.

What are the social and cultural limitations and rules of your Society?

We as Americans try to practice what our fore fathers have fought for; this is the freedoms that we hold close to our hearts. We have started to misinterpret the true meanings of these freedoms. We however have been slowly getting back on the right track due to the efforts of people challenging the social construction. The biggest problem is that people don’t know what it is like without the freedom.

Pleace give an example what will be over the cultural limitations and rules of your Society?

In recent news people have been protesting at the cemeteries where U.S. soldiers are being buried. These people are protesting about the war effort, and saying what they are doing over there is wrong and for that they will go to hell for it. These protestors are saying that they are using their freedom of speech, and we cannot deny this. To me this is wrong on so many levels, and displays the bad ethics that some people have in this world to deny anyone a peaceful burial.

Most Parks in the US only open at daylight hours - do you know why?

I am really not sure, but I am sure that it might have to do with safety reasons. They could also be trying to regulate the number of people coming in and out. I suppose you also have to take inconsideration that the wildlife do most of their moving around at night.

What are your feelings about 9-11?

It was a sad day in not just American history, but the world as well. I am sure everyone felt the pain on that day, and will always remember where they were on that September day.

Same People say the US did it by there one to create a war. Please respond to that!

I really have no comment on this, due to my involvement in the war. I was in the military at the time the war broke out.

Could you describe the Moment where you heared very first about the attack?

When I had gotten the news my heart dropped to the floor and I felt a sadness that I have never felt before in my life. I knew that my life would be changed from this day forth. I could never describe what really happened in words.

How have the life and training and so on at the Base where you have been stationed changed after that?

You knew that you were going to fight in the war, so you took things more seriously. Some of the changes on base was that inspection to get on to the base was on high alert. The training that we did increase to twice as much as before. Our budget was increased do to the war effort, which provided opportunities for better equipment. This new equipment replaced the outdated Vietnam era equipment that we were issued.

Has the US Army call you to go Oversea?

I was called to go over to Iraq on a few different times throughout my military service. Due to my position I am unable to give specific details.

What Music you like?

I like country, classical, jazz, blues, and rock.

You told already some about your life. Is there something more you like to share?

I am a typical northern Minnesotan so that means that I like the outdoors, and to experience new adventures.

What was your biggest Adventure until now?

Right now I have been trying to hike in 50 mile intervals during open weekend from two harbors Mn to the Canadian border.

Do you have plans for an even bigger one?

I don’t have anything set in stone but I will always look for the next big adventure. But, I guess you could say the biggest adventure is life it self.

Vieleicht uebersetze ich das spaeter noch und ich will auch noch 2 weitere Interviews machen - einmal mit einer weiblichen Studentin US-Gebuertig und einmal mit einer weiblichen Stdentin aus dem Ausland. Das wird dann an der State University of Minneapolis passieren.

Wie gestern komme ich nicht weit:

Gestern war es hauptsaechlich – neben den Munsinger und Clemens Gardens, die nicht viel Zeit benoetigen, ein Tag des organisierens:

- Socken wieder holen
- Guenstigen Essplatz finden (man wird zur Solvation Army geschickt, die auf der rechten Flussseite sein soll, aber tatsaechlich auf der linken am Highway 10 ist. Von dort wird man wieder auf die rechte Flussseite geschickt zur Place of Hope, denn Mensch kam natuerlich gerade an, als die Essenszeit zu Ende war..)
- Im Community Hospital mein Ohr spuelen, da wie 1 x im Jahr ueblich, das rechte Ohr mit Schmalz verstopft ist – trotz sonntaeglicher Reinigung – diemal scheint es aber irgendwie eine Infektion zu sein, denn auch heute ist es noch ein komisches Feeling – irgendwuie geschwollener Gehoergang, bin nicht sicher ob sich das wieder gibt oder ob ich da noch mal hin sollte. Vieleicht ist das normal wegen der Spuelung.. (was sagt Yars?)
- danach war wenigstens genau die Zeit um zur nahen Place of Hope zu fahren (offen von Oktober bis April jeden Tag, auch als Emergency Shelter nach dem Essen fuer die Nacht, aber dann duerfte man nach 18 Uhr nicht mehr raus, also nichts fuer mich)
- Hochladen der Bilder EINES (!) Tages
- Freistellungsauftrag ausdrucken
- Endlich meine Eltern ueber die aktuelle Finanzsituation informieren, damit im Fall meines Todes alles Geld an Entwicklungshilfeprojekte (Quelleinfassungen) anstatt an den gehassten deutschen Staat geht.

Ja, und heute war das STEARNS HISTORY MUSEUM dran – die Attraktion St Clouds auf der rechten Flussseite! Natuerlich ist auch da HALLOWEEN:

Intressante teils gethemte Ausstellungen fuer die Mensch durchaus einen Tag braucht, wenn er danach im angeschlossenen Research Center noch seine Mails checken moechte. Die 3 Comunity PC’s sind allerdings schlecht gewartet mit alter Software versehen und damit sehr langsam. Der Anschluss einer Kamera ist nicht moeglich, da die Administrativen Einschraenkungen dies verhindern.

Besonders gut gefiel mir die innovative Art in einem Bereich den Besucher dazu zu bringen, das er sich eine Vitrine ganz genau ansieht, in dem er verschiedene Dinge darin finden muss. Manche dieser dinge stellen sogar die Museum Mitarbeiter vor eine Herausforderung... Das macht richtig Spass und koennte eine neue Art eines FUN – PLACE sein. So was gibt es noch nicht. Vieleicht sollte ich mir diese Idee patentieren lassen, wenn es noch niemand vor mir gemacht hat..

Im STEARNS HISTORY MUSEUM lernt Mensch zum Beispiel, das es im Golf of Mexiko bei der Einmuendung des Missisippis eine Todeszone gibt wo nichts waechst. Diese ist genauso gross wie die Flaeche aller 12.000 Minnesota Seen zusammen! Das ist das Resultat von Jahren der Wasserverschmutzung in Konsequenz fuer den Lebensstil der Amerikaner in der Vergangenheit.
Viele Einwanderer hier kamen aus Schottland, Polen und Schweden. Auch Deutsche und Oesterreicher siedelten sich hier an. Vieles – wie Namen von Neighboorhoods oder die Umgebeungsgestaltung selbiger zeugen noch davon.

An der Uni gibt es etwa 380 Internet Acessable Computer in der Miller Hall, davon 25 MAC's

Nur 20 Geraete sind ausschlieslich fuer Studenten reserviert, der Rest auch der Oeffentlichkeit zugaenglich. Intressant ist, das keiner der fuer die Technik zustaendigen Studenten wusste, das die meisten Geraete nicht nur einen USB Anschluss haben, sondern 3. Das ist wichtig wenn Mensch Bilder von einer Speicherkarte/Kamera auf seinen I-Pod uebertragen moechte um so kostenlos neuen Platz fuer Bilder auf der Kamera zu schaffen. Meine Kamera hat theoretische 2 GB Speicherplatz, mein I-Pod aber theoretische 160!

Da ja kaum jemand fuer diesen Blog zahlt, werde ich natuerlich nur Zeit und kein Geld rein stecken.

Und fuer den Rest der USA Reise 2010 habe ich mir nun vorgenommen meine Postings einzuschraenken. Es braucht ohnehin schon genug Zeit den Alltag zu organisieren, wie einen italienischen Schuhmacher in Baxter zu finden, der einen Zipper fuer mein Ausenzelt hat, der passt oder in Minneapolis zu einem der 3 REI Stores zu fahren um meine Therma-Rest umzutauschen.

Fuer Euch heist das ggf: See us in Dezember on the Azores! Da hab ich wieder mehr Zeit, weil es frueh dunkel wird so nah am Aquator und Inseln klein sind..

Hier lebe ich gerne. The American Way of Life. Alles sauber und ordentlich. Die ganzen Baeume mit den Farben jetzt und dazu die Halloween Dekorationen. 3 Wochen angenehmes Wetter von 12 bis 18 Uhr zumindest. Und davor einen Tag herrlicher Prassel am Nachmittag/Abend..

Der Gegensatz

Car Pool - Soooo Umweltfeindlich wie es in D-Landdargestellt wird ist die USA gar nicht.

Schon bei meinen ersten reisen in den 90ern sind mir die speziell fuer Fahrgemeinschaften eingerichteten Fahrspuren auf der Interstate aufgefallen, damit individuell reisende benachteiligt werden.

Statt noch 8 Meilen zu All you can Eat hab ich mich heute fuer die 5 Dollar 14ener Pizza von Littel Casars zusammen mit einem Root Beer in der eisgekuehlten Mug von A&W gleich nebenan entschieden. kostet sogar ein wenig weniger..

KEIN US AUFENTHALT KANN KOMPLETT SEIN OHNE DIESES RITUAL

An diesem Abend hatte ich mich dann entschieden meinen Schlafplatz gegenueber dieses Wasserturms in einer unbepostboxten Einfahrt zu suchen, nachdem eine Fahrt zu den Molitor's Haunted Acres umsonst war, da es erst in einer Woche los geht..

Auf jedem Campus gibt es hier auch Kunst, eine Galerie oder/und verteilt in der Mensa/Auditorium oder sonst wo

Im Gegensatz zu den Bestrebungen einiger die UNO zu verlassen zeigt Mensch sich bei der Universitaet von St Cloud SOLIDARISCH und GEGEN DEN HASS (wie Kriege..) vereinigt

In der 511 9th Ave N gibt es von 17 uhr bis 17 Uhr 30 eine warme Mahlzeit

Gibt's auch hier - welch Ueberraschung - eigentlich eine Niederlaendische Bank...

Im Miller Center der Universitaet (Bild morgen) besorge ich mir eine Community Patron UserID fuer die zahlreichen Computer auf der 2. Ebene. Bis zum Jahresende koennte ich damit jeweils 4 Stunden am Tag (maximal 12 in der Woche) zwischen 7.30 und 2 uhr nachts das Internet nutzen. Bis 1 Uhr hab ich gebraucht um den Eintrag vor diesem hier zu erstellen... Genau wegen diesem emensen Zeitaufwand finde ich es nicht Vermessen die Nutzer dieses Blogs um eine Spende zu bitten...

Tent Upside Down - so geht's auch, wenn sich Baueme anbieten: Zelt als Tarp - Nachts um 2 geht das schneller und ich kann mich besser verstecken. Ideal wenn kein Regen oder Frost angesagt ist und die Moskitos von einem vorrausgegangenen Frost bereits vernichtet wurden.

Am morgen noch meine Socken vergessen. Als ich grad Reisefertig war kamen die Leute vom von meinem Schlafplatz unter einem Dach neben einer Halle sichtbaren Haus nach Hause. Es war kein Problem, das ich da geschlafen habe, aber so kam es dann wohl das ich die Zeit, die ich durch nicht Zelt aufbau gespart hatte, wieder durch 3 fach Roll einbueste..

Auser mir bloogt auch noch Hermann Plasa auf dieser Seite. Meist habe ich seinen Blogg kommentiert und diese Kommentare vervollstaendigen auch meinen Blogg hier. Also ruhig beide Blogs Lesen. Hier der Querlink zum heutigen Abschnitt.

Begleitende Literatur sollte auch die WEGBESCHREIBUNG sein, die jedes abbiegen mit Meilenangeben aufzeigt. Auch wenn es mal einen Fehler in den Zahlen gibt ist das sehr hilfreich.

Fehler heute im vorrausgegangenen Buch bei den beiden Einträgen zu Meile 30 von Nord nach Süd: Die Meilenangaben weichen ab, einfach der ausgeschilderten Bike-Route folgen!

Zum Kommentar: Erst mal lieber Koelner (bin in Neuwied geboren und in Linz hab ich die Schule beendet..) HERZLICH WILLKOMMEN in meinem Blog. Ich hatte wohl statt einem Maillink irgendwie nen Pagelink drin. Habs nun geändert und es sollte sich beim draufklicken Euer Mailprogramm öffnen.
